I was furious that night, so I went for a walk to clear my head. I took the dogs with me, since they were restless and I didn't want to be alone. It was colder than I had expected it to be. A deep, fierce bark rang out in the night, and it wasn't from either of my charges. It was approaching, and I pushed my largest dog behind me and tried to reach for my smallest. There was a growling tone in my own voice as I yelled out at our unseen attacker:

"NO! STAY BACK!"
